Visiting Denver in May--where should we stay, eat, and play inexpensively?

We are going to Denver the second week in May for a show, and I don't really know much about it.

Where are some really awesome places to check out? NOT family stuff...more like in yr 20's, love to shop and go to record stores, but love to see really cool stuff too. Stuff that fun locals would do maybe. We will have a rental car, so we can travel a bit too if it's something really awesome!!

Please help. I've been looking around and so far I know about Red Rocks, the Botanical Garden, the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, and that crazy restaurant Casa Bonita.

Beyond that....need more help. Especially with really cool mountains or scenery to check out!! I want to make the most of my trip, since it will be a geography that is NOTHING like where i live...

Thanks!!!

Yes, LoDo is THE place for 20-somethings to hang out. Did you watch the Real World Denver? That's where the house is (1920 Market Street). All the cool bars and clubs are there - just walk around and you'll find plenty of places.

If you want to drive to see scenery, Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are where you want to go - very, very beautiful - wait til you see all the elk and other wildlife right out your window! You can do it in a day trip since it's only 90 minutes away. I also recommend Red Rocks, a little west of the city - it's actually a Denver park and is free to walk around when there's not a concert. Boulder is another destination you should check out - you'll love it there. The Pearl Street Mall is the pedestrian shopping area that everyone hangs out, or you can go hiking in the Flatirons in Chatauqua Park.

Another Denver neighborhood you'd like is Cherry Creek. You can check out the upscale mall there, or stroll around the CC North area where there is awesome shopping and lots of little cafes to grab a bite. Try the Cherry Cricket for the best burgers and beer in Denver.

It's all good - just walk around and see what you like!
Reply:I would recommend if you are going to denver to go to Grizzley Rose. you could also go to Red Rocks, If you are willing to drive you could go up into the mountains nice area up there.there is a lot of deer right now. i have onlys seen a few elk. Lets see Dave and Busters is a bar/returant/ HUGE! arcade...lol.
Reply:Motels in the suburbs are cheaper than hotels downtown.

Estes Park is a great place to see the mountains, especially in May when it's not so crowded. I'd put it at the top of your list. The Stanley is expensive (and really cool), but maybe they have some specials in May, which is before the big tourist season. If not there are plenty of motels in all price ranges.

LoDo is an excellent suggestion for 20's people. Casa Bonita is more for kids and tourists. Wynkoop Brewing Company would be much more your thing, young adults, locals.

Maybe idea. The new art museum is a really interesting building, all crazy angles and titanium. They have some wild art, like the Radar exhibit.
Reply:Ask the bums down at 16th Street
Reply:The Highlands area of Denver is really cool. It's in NW Denver (32nd and Lowell) Lot's of little bars and shops. Really good vibe.
Reply:All you have to do is drive west on I 70 into the mountains to get the scenery. Or just go to Estes Park. The LODO area is nice with funky places.
