I'm taking a week long trip over to San Fran in late March, and I was wondering if anyone who has been there or lives there has any suggestions? Alcatraz looks like it could be photogenic. What about the San Francisco Botanical Gardens? Has anyone been to them? I had planned to go to the SF zoo too; has anyone been there? If so, what did you think? Any favorite exhibits? Thanks.
What are some good places to photograph in San Francisco?
Alcatraz is unique and has great views of the city. I would take a cable car around; you can stop at the top of Lombard St. (the crookedest street), as well as Chinatown (very colorful) and the TransAmerica building (it's triangle-shaped). You can also go across the Golden Gate bridge to Muir Woods and Napa Valley. I'd also spend time on Fisherman's Wharf; the otters are a hoot! Have fun; I loved SF the one and only time I was there.
Reply:Take the tram. That is
the best way to get
good pictures. Seriously.
Reply:I live here and just moved!
There are SOO many places to take good pictures. Don't forget coit tower and lombard street :-) I've not been to the zoo or gardens yet.
Will you have a car while you're here?
If so, try exploring down highway 1 -- there are a TON of beaches and little roadside parks and some truely amazing views.
Reply:If you go to Alcatraz...cell #181 was the one they kept Al Capone in. Be sure to get a picture of the masks on display that were made by the only prisoners to ever escape from the prison. The view of SanFrancisco from the exercise yard is spectacular. One wonders how many prisoners sat on those benches looking at the pure freedom just out of reach, across the bay.
The most photographed object in creation has to be the golden Gate Bridge. Sometimes at dusk you can get the white fog rolling across the bay and it completely obscures the bridge........
Reply:The Japanese Tea garden is a great place for photographs and in late March there should be a lot of flowers blooming. Also, if you like hiking, go take the ferry to Angel island. You'll be able to take great pictures from the ferry and if you hike to the top of Angel island there is a panaramic view of the city and surrounding areas. Sausalito is a beautiful mediterranean looking town nearby San Francisco. Coit Tower and the Ferry Building and farmer's market are good too. Have fun.

Reply:You can't go to San Francisco without taking a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge, a cable car, and some photos of the ships at the wharf. The wax museum is also interesting. There are tours of the bay on boats that go out pretty often.
Reply:The Peace Garden in Japan Town.
